Conceived in 1988 however production of the 1,983 examples made didn’t commence until 1992. Production was deliberately limited to ensure build quality with the intention that irrespective of demand it would never be mass produced. When exhibited at the ’93 Tokyo motor show it proved extremely popular resulting in approximately 1,500 of the cars being exported there. That’s no bad thing as the Japanese don’t use salt on their roads and their Shaken test is far more stringent than our MOT meaning that cars imported from Japan are usually in very good condition.
